Saroon is the genre-fluid project by Portland, OR area artist, ayal. Born in a settlement to parents from the northern and southern halves of the other side of the world, his family immigrated to southern Oregon at the age of 5 and he quickly found music as the only grounding force in an alienated, if optimistic worldview. Saroon weaves enchanting songwriting, experimental soundscapes, and healing sonic design into an immersive tapestry. Beyond Saroon, ayal is a host of the music podcasts Sketches with Songs and Honest Jams, contributing to numerous Portland artists’ records and bands, a member of the Live Wire Radio house band, and is a music therapist.
From ayal:
“This album sprouted during a 20 song game (a game in which participants have 12 hours to write 20 songs) which birthed its first piece, “Traffic Operators on the Transmigration Highway”; a musical representation of benevolent entities coaxing the remnants of soul through the process of reincarnation. The song sat around for a while until years later I was inspired to expand on it, widening the sonic landscape to tell the story of one “individual”, starting at the moment of death and ending at conception. These are not things I believe, but concepts to embody.”
